If you have been on the Internet for quite some time, you will remember that way before there was TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube - there was a thing called blogging.
Blogging was very pure. People shared their thoughts via long-form content without the explicit purpose of getting attention from strangers. It was like an online journal, a diary if you must say.
It was very pure because people told stories, their life experiences, their successes and failures with so much substance and so much meaning that readers would relate to the blogger and learn from them.
But now, blogging has almost entirely disappeared and what we have now are short-form vertical videos during a time when most of us (me included) have a significantly reduced attention span.
But here's the thing: no matter how much I miss long-form content creators, I know for certain that the world moves on and the only thing constant is change.
That means, I needed to adapt to the change too.
So now, even if those long-form content with so much substance are fewer and fewer these days, I adjusted to the change by cleaning up my social media to make sure I keep and follow only things that make me happy.
These include cleaning up my following list to include only podcasts, book authors and a few other content creators that have meaningful content. I have started to follow only my family, friends and creators who enrich my life and bring me positive vibes. That's how I managed to adapt to this world of constant change with so much noise.
And you know what really helps? Meditating in nature and disconnecting from the Internet even for just a few days a month.
What I realized by doing this is that I get more energy by connecting with family and friends in real life.
After all, that is where your social life should really be - in the real world setting and not online.
Only by doing all that and lessening my time online did I feel more motivated and inspired recently.
I hope that you find your inspiration too in the real world and my wish is that your social media feed is making you happier and renewed as much as I am.
Take care!
Chris
